About
The 2016 Clarksville Regional was held Sept. 24 at Austin Peay State University. Castle narrowly defeated Franklin to reclaim the regional champion title.

It was a close competition between the top two, with less than a half a point separating them in both prelims and finals. Ultimately, Castle's higher GE scores were able to edge out Franklin, even without the small penalty Franklin and North Hardin received.

North Hardin, Central Hardin, and DeSoto Central maintained their top-half placements from prelims to finals.

Analysis
Castle and Franklin will face off at an early season regional for the third year in a row, with several other groups wanting to challenge the rivals.

Last year, both groups placed behind O'Fallon Township, but this year, the competitor completing the trio of possible victors will be North Hardin. Expect one of these three groups to win, though if past is any precedent at this particular regional, the group that wins prelims might not be the same as the one that wins finals.

After the top three, we expect to see Adair County and Camdenton battling for fourth and fifth, though we could see one of these groups pushing up into the top three.

Camdenton placed fifth at last year's Clarksville Regional and was only one spot out of finals at St. Louis later in the season. An excellent showing here at Clarksville could give us a glimpse into how they might fare at St. Louis this year.

Adair County is the reigning Class A Grand National Champion and a consistent regional finalist.

The bottom half of finals will likely be a fight between Central Hardin, Forest Park, Fred J. Page, McGavock, Paragould, Ravenwood, and Siegel.

Three of those groups — Central Hardin, Ravenwood, and Siegel — made finals last year at Clarksville and will be looking to do it again, but this year they're facing some steep competition.

Paragould barely missed finals last year, but this group seems to be on an upward trajectory, so a push into finals would be just the step to continue their year-over-year improvement.

The other three — Forest Park, Fred J. Page, and McGavock — are new to the Clarksville Regional, but have shown success in past year. In fact, McGavock is the only Tennessee band to ever compete in Grand National Finals, although that was back in the 80's and 90's.

Typically we don't talk about Class A as being an extremely competitive class, but there are three really good bands fighting for the class champion medal. Aside from Class A National Champion Adair County, Forest Park and Union City are two really good groups Class A that could try to take that title away. Forest Park placed just out of finals at the Indianapolis Super Regional last year, and Union City has a long history of regional and super regional class champion titles.
