The biggest news coming out of this weekend was the first round of state competitions.

At Indiana State School Music Association regional competitions, Avon narrowly defeated Carmel, followed closely by Castle. That caused Avon and Castle to move up and Carmel to slide down slightly. Homestead's performance at their regional was as would be expected and didn't have an effect on their ranking.

Additionally, state competitions in Illinois moved O'Fallon Township back into the rankings and caused Marian Catholic to drop a few spots. However, Marian always makes drastic improvements the last few weeks of the season, so by the time the Indianapolis Super Regional and the Grand National Championships come around, they'll certainly be back on top.

In actual Bands of America results, Dobyns-Bennett won the Winston-Salem Regional, again. It was enough to push them up a few spots, but the regionals reputation as a whole is not enough to put more than one group on the Top 30.
