The 2014 Conroe, Texas, Regional was held Oct. 11 at Woodforest Bank Stadium. Twenty-three bands from across the state of Texas competed, and Claudia Taylor Johnson was named regional champion.
Analysis
This was a fairly typical Texas regional with a few of Texas's elite and then a pool of solid programs that made it nearly impossible to accurately predict finalists, much less the finalist placements. The seemingly obvious winner would have been The Woodlands, the defending Grand National champion. After prelims awards, it was looking really good for them when they were named Class AAAA champion, just one spot ahead of Johnson. Ronald Reagan's lower ranking wasn't too big of a surprise for a regional that's still pretty early in the season, but we were very surprised to see The Woodlands College Park in third. This group has been getting consistently better year over year and seem to really thriving off the success of their district-mate The Woodlands instead of being squashed by them.
