Wando and Wakeland earn decisive wins in South Carolina and Texas

The Carolinas held an intense showdown between last year's regional champion Catawba Ridge and past national finalist Wando, who did not attend the 2022 event. Both bands swept captions and won their class in prelims, leaving a good deal of uncertainty heading into finals competition.
Ultimately, Wando took the top spot in finals and won caption awards for best music, visual, and effect, with Catawba Ridge finishing in second place. Third place was a tight race with less than a half a point separating Nation Ford, James F. Byrnes, and Clover in third through fifth places.

In Dallas, Wakeland was named regional champion, with Prosper earning second place in finals at their home stadium. Timber Creek finished third, while LD Bell — which placed first in prelims — took fourth in finals.
Similar to South Carolina, prelims results did not give us a clear indication of how finals would turn out since Wakeland is in Class AAA while most of the other top competitors are in Class AAAA. We also saw some significant changes in placement from prelims to finals: Timber Creek jumping up to third in finals after not placing in class in prelims; LD Bell dropping from first in class to fourth overall; and Wakeland jumping from third in prelims to first in finals.
