The 2014 Powder Springs, Georgia, Regional was held Sept. 27 at McEachern High School. Twenty bands from five different states competed and after placing second in prelims, Harrison won the finals competition and was named regional champion.
Analysis
The regional that brought last year’s thriller between Harrison and Franklin had a very different feel since the reigning champion Franklin wasn't in attendance. Instead, Harrison's primary opponent was fellow Cobb County high school and former Grand National finalist Kennesaw Mountain. Continuing with the unusual recent tradition of southeastern regionals, the regional champion, Harrison, did not win its class in prelims. We can only look forward to the Jacksonville regional to see if Harrison can stay ahead or if they will find themselves in second place behind Kennesaw.
