The 2017 Midland, Texas, Regional will be held Oct. 14 at Grande Communications Stadium. This is the first West Texas regional in 10 years.

Analysis
This West Texas regional provides a great opportunity to showcase many bands that haven’t previously made the trek over to a BOA event. The regional also features many frequent participants traveling west, hoping to find gold, or a medal of some sort.

Claudia Taylor Johnson will almost certainly win this event. As a consistent national finalist with multiple regional and super regional champion titles, CTJ will be way ahead of the pack.

Bellevue West should come in second. As a frequent top-half finalist at St. Louis, Bellevue West as made a name for themselves among the best bands in their region. We’re very interested to see how they do traveling a bit out of their element … all the way in Texas.

Timber Creek made BOA finals for the first time in the school’s history at the Southlake Regional earlier this season. This is their chance to continue making history by earning a medalist position at a BOA event.

Clovis, L. V. Berkner, and Sherman look to complete the top half of finals. Clovis had a string of finals appearances at regionals in Utah and California, but hasn’t attended a BOA event in a couple of years. Berkner has been more active in BOA events, earning a finals spot at a Dallas-area regional as recently as 2014. Sherman turned heads in Atlanta last year with an outstanding performance that just barely missed finals.

Coronado, Del Rio, Fossil Ridge, Lewisville, McNeil, and Permian are some of the other names receiving some attention from internet forum dwellers, but with little data to use, it’s really tough to predict. The bottom half is pretty wide open, and as a new event in a region we aren’t well exposed to, we won’t try to predict this event in-depth. However, we are excited to see how all these bands perform in a BOA context, some for the first time. There will certainly be a couple of under-the-radar groups that turn heads.
