Four regionals, four new regional champions in third week

By Jeremiah Wooten

The third week of BOA marching contests brought more surprise upsets, with first-time champions Braswell, Cy-Fair, Roma, and Rosemount taking the top spot across four different regionals. With seven of nine early season regionals won by a first-time regional champion, this has become more of a routine than a suprise.

Cy-Fair won the Shenandoah Regional, taking caption awards for best visual performance and best general effect. Clear Brook finished second place, with Klein Oak and Friendswood separated by just 0.2 points in 3rd and 4th place. College Park, which placed fifth overall, won the award for best music performance.

Many of these groups, including newly named regional champion Cy-Fair will go to head-to-head against past national finalists Ronald Reagan, The Woodlands, Claudia Taylor Johnson, and more at the second Houston regional next weekend.

In Iowa, Rosemount took the top spot, nearly 3 points ahead of second-place Lincoln, last year's champion. Rosemount also swept caption awards, winning best music, visual, and general effect. Bellevue West finished third, about 4.5 points behind Lincoln.

Alexander took second and third place, separated by just half a point. JBA also won the aware for best visual performance.
