The 2014 Austin, Texas, Regional was held Sept. 27 at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex. Twenty-five bands from across the state of Texas competed, and James Bowie was named Regional Champion.
Analysis
The first of the Texas regionals, Austin is always a great indicator of how competitive the Texas bands will be that year. The answer is always the same: ridiculously competitive. This event also introduced us to a rising star: Leander. We weren't surprised by the exceptional performances by Round Rock, Ronald Reagan, Vandegrift, Cedar Ridge, and Cedar Park, but we were surprised by the incredible performance given by Leander. We really hope Leander (and Vandegrift and Cedar Park) decide to make the trip to Grand Nats and compete against the other top class AAA groups in the nation. In addition, while these results are important, they are in no way a guarantee of how things will turn out at San Antonio in about a month.
