States Represented (7)
Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.
The 2019 Louisville Regional will be held Sept. 21 at Cardinal Stadium on the campus of the University of Louisville. This regional has been held at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, for the past four seasons.
It's pretty easy to predict that Carmel will win the regional champion title. They did have a little bit of turnover losing Rosie Queen, the director who built their guard program into the national powerhouse it is today. But there's no reason to think the strength of the program she left behind will start to dwindle at all.
Beyond Carmel, there's a clear trio in the running for medals: Castle, Franklin and North Hardin. These three have consistently medalled and even won past regionals, and it's early enough they could rank in any order. However, we don't expect any other bands to be able to push one of them out of the top half.
Fifth place looks similarly open for the taking. Last year's fifth-place group Clinton of Mississippi is returning, but several other competitive bands will be aiming for the spot. One such group is DeSoto Central, another of the top Mississippi groups that always brings entertaining shows that have consistently earned a spot in finals. Kentucky's Adair County, Central Hardin, and Eastern will also be in the finals conversation, as will Ft Zumwalt North and Columbus North. And with so many Kentucky bands in attendance, it wouldn't be crazy to see a group with that home field advantage squeeze their way into finals.

Brief Preview
Seeing Carmel's name on this list really steps up the prestige of this first-weekend regional. We've seen bands like Castle, Franklin, North Hardin, and O'Fallon headlining this regional for the last five years, but having the reigning national champion in attendance is a different level. Because of how scheduling worked out this year, Louisville has become a mashup of the previous seasons' Dayton and Clarksville regionals. A strong contingent of Kentucky and Indiana bands will go head-to-head against a couple Metro-Nashville groups with strong histories.Carmel performs in finals at the Oxford Regional on Sept. 22, 2018, at Miami University. // Photo by Jeremiah Wooten |
