In 2016, Lawrence Township will be competing at the Indianapolis Super Regional and the Grand National Championships.

The Marching Pride of Lawrence Township competed at the Indianapolis Super Regional and the Grand National Championships.

Lawrence Township was previously scheduled to attend the Dayton Regional, but withdrew at the last minute — a sign some people interpreted as LT not being satisfied with the progress they were making at that point in the season.

At Indianapolis, LT placed 9th, slightly lower than we would expect a group on track to make Grand Nats finals. However, it's not impossible for them to bounce back from this placement.

A few weeks later, LT fell just short of making finals, placing 14th in semifinals. It's the second year of existence for this group, but the first time they've missed finals. We'll see if they're able to jump back into finals in 2016.

Lawrence Township competed at the Indianapolis Super Regional and the Grand National Championships. Because of the merger of Lawrence Central and Lawrence North, neither school can be solely identified as the parent organization. Therefore, we can say that this season was full of firsts for the Township including the group's first time making finals at a BOA event and first time making finals at Grand Nationals. At the Indy Super Regional, they placed ninth, well behind many Grand Nats bubble bands. However, at Grand Nats they managed to get into finals, placing twelfth and beating several of the bands that beat them at the Indy Super Regional. While it's unpopular to say that a group should or shouldn't have made finals, it can be said that Lawrence Township is not the same group as the Lawrence Central of 2001 or 2004 and making Grand Nats finals is not a guarantee going forward.

Looking to the past means looking to Lawrence Central, the more competitive of the two schools which merged to create the Marching Pride of Lawrence Township. Central's 2013 show "Shades of a Day" earned them an 8th place finish at Grand Nationals to continue their long run of consecutive finals appearances, but making finals from here on out will be the first time that Lawrence Township has ever made Grand National finals. Even making finals at the Indianapolis Super Regional would be their first time making finals at a BOA regional.

  1. LC was actually 8th

  2. Turns out they were actually 12th, not 29th.
