Another season has come to a close and for the first time since 2014, we have a new Grand National champion. That's a huge accomplishment in and of itself, but Vandegrift is also the youngest school to win Grand Nationals and the only school since the early years of the event to win in their first-ever appearance. There's been a lot of discussion about how the rankings would turn out considering Vandy's national finals score of 97.175 falls just short of Ronald Reagan's 97.30 at the San Antonio Super Regional. Of course we'll never truly know how Reagan would fare at Grand Nationals this year. Perhaps with an extra two weeks, Reagan would have score a 99.90 in Indianapolis, but, more likely, their show was planned to peak right at San Antonio, and it definitely worked. For that reason, along with the common contest dynamics of San Antonio that drive scores upward, Vandegrift earns the no. 1 spot in our rankings for the final week of 2019.

Most of the remaining finalists at Grand Nationals finished in similar positions to how they were previously ranked, which resulted in only minor adjustments to most of the rankings. Union's well-deserved finals appearance moved them into a ranked position from the Next 10. Fishers's and Lawrence Township's finishes just south of the finals cut off also earned ranked positions for each of the groups. While they've frequently been included in the Next 10, this is Fishers's first time earning a spot as a ranked band.
