It was another exciting weekend of band with BOA contests in Houston, Midland, and Toledo, as well as local contests in Bentonville and Dallas. You can dig into all of the recaps and scores on our results tab.

The champion in Houston wasn't very suprising: Ronald Reagan was the clear victor. They've been sitting atop the rankings all year long. But what was suprising was the point spread. Unlike the first Houston regional, when The Woodlands beat second-place Cypress Woods by nearly 4 points, Reagan only had a margin of less than 2 points before penalties. Cedar Ridge's silver medal pushed them up a few spots, and Pearland also had some redemption with a third-place finish after falling to the bottom half of finals in Conroe.

In Midland and Toledo, first time regional champions were named: Johnson in Midland and Brownsburg in Toledo. Now, you might think: is Johnson really a first-time regional champion? Haven't they won several regionals before, even the Midland Regional? It is true that a Johnson High School has won the Midland Regional before. And it is true that a Johnson Jaguar Band has won the Midland Regional before. Just not the one that won it this year. OK, enough confusion. Up-and-comer Moe and Gene Johnson High School from Hays ISD was the first-time champion. For our purposes we're officially adopting the moniker MG Johnson to distinguish the band from San Antonio's CT Johnson. You may also see in shorthand a reference to MGJ or ocassionally Buda Johnson since the school is in Buda, Texas.

Outside of the BOA world, HEB ISD's marching contest name Marcus champion with Wakeland in a distant second place. Prosper, Forney, Keller, and Carroll finished third thru sixth place and were separated by less than four tenths. In Bentonville, Arkansas, Camdenton was named champion beating Fayetteville and former national finalist Union.
