Despite a leaky ceiling at the brand new $1.6 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the first band competition in the new venue seemed to be a success. A much expected victory for Tarpon was accompanied by a great second-place showing from Wando. Texas bands Haltom and Cedar Ridge earned third and fourth place, respectively.
In Downey, Carmel won a well-deserved victory against some of California's best, but what was more surprising was the gap between Ayala and Vista Murrieta. Those results pushed Ayala back onto the rankings and dropped Vista Murrieta to the last spot.
