Top 30 Rankings — Oct. 30, 2018 (Week 7)
This weekend's St. Louis Super Regional introduces two new groups to the Top 30 rankings: Jenks (OK) and Lincoln-Way (IL). Both groups were previously ranked in the Next 10. Marian Catholic also jumped onto the rankings from the Next 10 following their St. Louis performance.Broken Arrow performs at the St. Louis Super Regional on Oct. 27, 2018, at The Dome at America's Center. There were also quite a few shake ups to many Texas groups following the state's UIL Area competition this weekend. While UIL adjudication is rather different that BOA's style, it was our first chance to see how many of the group's shows are developing in several weeks and can give some hints to how San Antonio may develop this weekend. We're also thoroughly convinced that San Antonio results will turn out completely different. Some the bands that didn't even advance to state could even find themselves among the finalists this weekend..

ReplyDeleteFirst time in the top 10 for Vista Ridge!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME VR!
DeleteYAY Lincoln-Way!!!!
ReplyDeleteAyala wins the St. George regional by a full point over American Fork, who are a grand nats finalist contender, posts a score of 89.05 which is one of the highest scores of the year so far, and is still kept out of the top 30. The lack of respect for West Coast Bands is staggering and disheartening.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe any of the staff at HornRank have any disrespect for any band in the country, regardless of score or region. They're typically fair in their rankings and they're also typically right, or at least closer than most others.
DeleteI think I have an idea of why they placed Ayala and American Fork so low. I believe that it's because there's less competition on the west coast when compared to Oklahoma or Texas ot Indiana. Their scores don't truly reflect their score if they were to go to Grand Nats. When you look at American Fork's score at the regional in Utah vs Grand Nats, you'll see their score dropped from an 89 to 86.5 despite getting two more weeks to practice in between.
But Vista Murrieta made the top 30 for the last two weeks and are a west coast band.
